WebKit Clock is a neat experiment by Ono Takehiko aimed at recreating the original iPhone clock icon in CSS3 and animate it using the WebKit rendering engine. Actually, the whole website is based on modern web technologies such as HTML5 canvas, CSS3, JavaScript, Web Fonts, SVG. No image files are being used.
As you can see on the website, you can move an airplane between cities in the world based in different time zones, and see the icon update in real-time. It’s very cool.

Greenpois0n 4.2 Jailbreak Update….Delayed
Hey guys, something caught my eye this afternoon that I really wanted to tell you right away, but I was unavailable most of the day, as I am sure you can tell.
Today on Twitter, at about 4PM central, @pOsixninja announced that GreenpoisOn is currently being delayed, for an undisclosed amount of time.
@pOsixninja said ” I apologize for the delay in greenpois0n 4.2.1 support. Our current focus is on a permanent untether solution”
This looks like bad news and great news all in one. Yes I want GreenpoisOn now, but I would also love to have a permanent untethered jailbreak, so I don’t have to worry about dealing with updates anymore. I am excited for this news, and I hope you are too. sorry this isn’t much of a post, I just thought everyone would like an update.

iOSFlashVideo; Finally Free Flash on iPhone!
Hey guys, I found something interesting I’d like to share, its called iOSflashvideo!
My biggest complain for a long time now has been that the iPhone doesn’t support flash video, that’s because it was rumored that Apple and Adobe (the makers thereof) don’t get along, and it has been said that Steve Jobs would never allow Flash to be supported. I don’t know the details, so I wont speculate. Now I know there are a few apps from the app store that do allow use of Flash video, like CloudBrowse, or Skyfire, but to me these apps are more a pain than they are worth, for starters Skyfire rings in at $2.99 to purchase, and CloudBrowse costs $6 a month to use for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. Yes I want Flash, but, like most users, I want it free.
Enter iOSflashvideo.
iOSflashvideo isn’t an app, it’s a website. More specifically it is a website that you bookmark, and once you bookmark (known better as a bookmarklet) it, you now have access to all the flash videos that you have been missing, at least for certain websites. To elaborate, iOSflashvideo is still new, and they are expanding on the list of supported sites everyday, but like anything else it takes time. Before I walk you through how to add this to your iDevice, (I.E. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) I must tell you there is just a bit more to it than simply bookmarking, so hang around, don’t navigate away just yet

What is Jailbreaking?
Jailbreaking is a process that allows you use iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad files that Apple wouldn’t normally let you use, this making it possible to download and install many things that Apple would never provide for you. Jailbreaking adds an unofficial app called Cydia to your iPhone. From there you can download thousands of different 3rd party apps that are not available int the Apple App Store.
- Is Jailbreaking legal? Yes.
- Is Jailbreaking safe? Yes.
- Is Jailbreaking free? Yes.
Jailbreaking is not the same as unlocking. Unlocking is a process you can do through some jailbroken iPhones, that will allow you to use your iPhone on an on an unofficial carrier.
Fring Update: Full-Screen Video Calling, “Dynamic Video Quality”
Fring, a popular VoIP service that allows you make regular phone calls, video calls and chat, released an update to their official iPhone client today which brings a number of new features and fixes.
First off, fring is introducing a new video calling technology called DVQ (Dynamic Video Quality) that automatically adjusts the quality of a video calling session according to your bandwidth in order to provide an always-good experience. I’m testing it on 3G and, admittedly, it works pretty well. There’s also a new video quality indicator that enables you to check on the quality of the connection in real-time. Neat.

Swarm Light: iPhone-Controlled LED Chandelier
This falls under the category of neat installations powered by an iOS device we have covered so many times here on MacStories. The Swam Light is a $180,000 LED chandelier based on an algorithm originally meant to analyze the behavior of bees. The LED that power the chandelier, in fact, are organized in a series of grids and lit up to display “simulated collective movement” — or, the movement of groups of insects.
What’s cool is that the creators of the installation, rAndom International, developed an iPhone controller in-house to handle operations remotely. The iPhone app can dim lights and switch between the various modes implemented in the Swarm Light.

Find My iPhone App Helps Police Track Down Thief In Singapore
We have heard stories like this one before, and it looks like Apple’s Find My iPhone service keeps on helping police and iPhone owners track down thieves. The latest story comes from Singapore, where the Straits Times is reporting a 18-year-old Malaysian man was tracked down by the police thanks to Find My iPhone in less than 48 hours.

iOS 4.2 Speeds Up Network; Improves Battery Life
iOS 4.2 for the iPhone supports technology called “Network Controlled Fast Dormancy” which lets the cell network and the iPhone work together to achieve the best conditions for smartphones, such as the iPhone, to work quickly, yet, have longer battery life, and ease network congestion.
Oddly enough, it is Nokia Siemens Networks (not Apple!) that has announced this.
Nokia Siemens Networks posted the news on their blog site.
Nokia Siemens Networks has introduced a method that, instead of putting the iPhone into an idle state, or just remaining active, sort of keeps it in an “intermediate” state.

Phonofone III for iPhone…too Awesome
Hey guys this is the coolest speaker I’ve ever seen for the iPhone, so I just had to share it.
The phonofone III from science & sons for the iPhone is pretty much an old school speaker for the iPhone that looks just like the funnel speaker on the old phonographs.
The neatest thing about the phonofone collection is that it doesn’t use batteries or wires. It acoustically amplifies your iPhone‘s speaker up to 4x. Some people say that the iphone’s sound is terrible, but this speaker is said to make it a little less so.
This speaker is made completely out of porcelain, and certainly looks better than the previous models, reportedly works better too.

Angry Birds: 12+ Million Copies Sold (Most on iOS)
Do you know the story behind Angry Birds? It started off with a screenshot from one of their game designers – a picture of some angry-looking birds. Then the game mechanics were developed behind the idea. Everyone at Rovio really loved the characters, so a game was developed around it.
Flight Control for iPhone Update: Online Multiplayer, Voice Chat
Flight Control, popular iPhone game from award-winning development studio Firemint, was updated a few hours ago to version 1.9.2. As promised by Firemint developers before the public release of iOS 4.2 in November, this update follows “HD” iPad version and introduces support for online multiplayer through Game Center, with the possibility to start a voice chat with your opponent.
You can invite a friend to play, or let the app search for a random match in Game Center. The voice chat option is turned off by default but can be activated at any time. I just tried the online multiplayer mode with one of my Game Center contacts and it works pretty well, although I noticed some lags.
Flight Control is available at $0.99 in the App Store

There’s An Official Inception App In The App Store. And It’s Mind-Blowing.
In all seriousness, I think Inception is the best movie of 2010. I watched it four times already, my friends love it — we all love it. There’s no need to keep saying that Inception is a great movie. But the iPhone app released today and developed by Remote Control Productions, the film music company run by Hans Zimmer? It’s completely awesome. And kind of surreal. An experience that it’s not easy to describe in words.
iPad 2 shipping by the end of february 2011 [rumor]
Digitimes is saying that the Foxconn Electronics plant in Shenzhen will start distributing iPad 2 in only one hundred days. They also claim that production could start at 400 to 600 thousand units shipped. Foxconn hasn’t confirmed this rumor, though it comes from Taiwan based component makers (which means the rumors are likely true).
Sources claim that the iPad 2 will ship by the end of February twenty-eleven. Mass manufacturing of the iPad 2 was planned to start in January 2011, but unfortunately the firmware (which I am thinking will be iOS 4.3 or iOS 5) is still being tested, so Apple has put the plan on hold.

Game Review: Angry Birds Seasons
The creators of Angry Birds have created a Christmas edition to the the Seasons app for Angry Birds! I just recently noticed that the creators have added a little twist to this new Christmas version! There are a total of 26 levels, and there is only 1 level available for each day of this month leading up to Christmas day! Also there is a giant present level after the 25th level of the series which leaves a big surprise for all of us.
Google Latitude for iPhone coming soon! Keep Track of Your [Friends]
A Google Latitude app for iPhone is about to be released, and will be available in the App Store soon. Latitude uses location-based check-ins to let you track your friends online. Of course it has all the appropriate privacy guards.Latitude was already in the Japanese App Store for a short time, however, it was rumored that the release of Latitude was accidental, and was pulled quickly. An official release could be coming any day.
While it didn’t cause quite as much of an uproar as Google Voice, Latitude’s disappearance from the App Store still caused a lot of buzz in the internet .
Google Latitude lets you see where your friends are at any moment.
