iPhone Clock Icon, Animated With WebKit

WebKit Clock is a neat experiment by Ono Takehiko aimed at recreating the original iPhone clock icon in CSS3 and animate it using the WebKit rendering engine. Actually, the whole website is based on modern web technologies such as HTML5 canvas, CSS3, JavaScript, Web Fonts, SVG. No image files are being used.
As you can see on the website, you can move an airplane between cities in the world based in different time zones, and see the icon update in real-time. It’s very cool.

Greenpois0n 4.2 Jailbreak Update….Delayed

Hey guys, something caught my eye this afternoon that I really wanted to tell you right away, but I was unavailable most of the day, as I am sure you can tell.
Today on Twitter, at about 4PM central, @pOsixninja announced that GreenpoisOn is currently being delayed, for an undisclosed amount of time.
@pOsixninja said ” I apologize for the delay in greenpois0n 4.2.1 support. Our current focus is on a permanent untether solution”
This looks like bad news and great news all in one. Yes I want GreenpoisOn now, but I would also love to have a permanent untethered jailbreak, so I don’t have to worry about dealing with updates anymore. I am excited for this news, and I hope you are too. sorry this isn’t much of a post, I just thought everyone would like an update.

iOSFlashVideo; Finally Free Flash on iPhone!

Hey guys, I found something interesting I’d like to share, its called iOSflashvideo!
My biggest complain for a long time now has been that the iPhone doesn’t support flash video, that’s because it was rumored that Apple and Adobe (the makers thereof) don’t get along, and it has been said that Steve Jobs would never allow Flash to be supported. I don’t know the details, so I wont speculate. Now I know there are a few apps from the app store that do allow use of Flash video, like CloudBrowse, or Skyfire, but to me these apps are more a pain than they are worth, for starters Skyfire rings in at $2.99 to purchase, and CloudBrowse costs $6 a month to use for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. Yes I want Flash, but, like most users, I want it free.
Enter iOSflashvideo.
iOSflashvideo isn’t an app, it’s a website. More specifically it is a website that you bookmark, and once you bookmark (known better as a bookmarklet) it, you now have access to all the flash videos that you have been missing, at least for certain websites. To elaborate, iOSflashvideo is still new, and they are expanding on the list of supported sites everyday, but like anything else it takes time. Before I walk you through how to add this to your iDevice, (I.E. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) I must tell you there is just a bit more to it than simply bookmarking, so hang around, don’t navigate away just yet

What is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking is a process that allows you use iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad files that Apple wouldn’t normally let you use, this making it possible to download and install many things that Apple would never provide for you. Jailbreaking adds an unofficial app called Cydia to your iPhone. From there you can download thousands of different 3rd party apps that are not available int the Apple App Store.
  • Is Jailbreaking legal? Yes.
  • Is Jailbreaking safe? Yes.
  • Is Jailbreaking free? Yes.
There are not very many risks that come with jailbreaking your iDevice, because you can always restore it through iTunes. (note: restore if you bring your device into Apple for repairs)
Jailbreaking is not the same as unlocking. Unlocking is a process you can do through some jailbroken iPhones, that will allow you to use your iPhone on an on an unofficial carrier.

Fring Update: Full-Screen Video Calling, “Dynamic Video Quality”

Fring, a popular VoIP service that allows you make regular phone calls, video calls and chat, released an update to their official iPhone client today which brings a number of new features and fixes.
First off, fring is introducing a new video calling technology called DVQ (Dynamic Video Quality) that automatically adjusts the quality of a video calling session according to your bandwidth in order to provide an always-good experience. I’m testing it on 3G and, admittedly, it works pretty well. There’s also a new video quality indicator that enables you to check on the quality of the connection in real-time. Neat.

Swarm Light: iPhone-Controlled LED Chandelier

This falls under the category of neat installations powered by an iOS device we have covered so many times here on MacStories. The Swam Light is a $180,000 LED chandelier based on an algorithm originally meant to analyze the behavior of bees. The LED that power the chandelier, in fact, are organized in a series of grids and lit up to display “simulated collective movement” — or, the movement of groups of insects.
What’s cool is that the creators of the installation, rAndom International, developed an iPhone controller in-house to handle operations remotely. The iPhone app can dim lights and switch between the various modes implemented in the Swarm Light.

Find My iPhone App Helps Police Track Down Thief In Singapore

We have heard stories like this one before, and it looks like Apple’s Find My iPhone service keeps on helping police and iPhone owners track down thieves. The latest story comes from Singapore, where the Straits Times is reporting a 18-year-old Malaysian man was tracked down by the police thanks to Find My iPhone in less than 48 hours.
